crowded opening night

By Kajsa Guterstam | Published: September 11, 2009

Visual Voltage opening night brought more then 300 people together, confronted with design prototypes and art installations visualising energy use. Amongst other TV channels France 3 will broadcast the exhibition and the making of on October 9th. A scientific reporter of De Standaard, Belgium’s national newspaper, will bring a reportage after visiting Sweden to learn about the multidisciplinary production and research context when it comes to sustainable solutions in a broader context. The exhibition has also been featured in the Swedish news program SVT-rapport.

Artist and project leader from Interactive Institute, Tina Finnäs:

“To be in Brussels and be part of Design September that brings together design groups from all over the world and at the same time be part of the Sweden week is a challenging and interesting opporturnity. Climate, environment and energy are some of the important priorities of the Swedish EU presidency. The Visual Voltage exhibition presents a number of innovative sustainable solutions that contribute, inspire and increase awareness”.

don’t we all like a power aware cord?

By Kajsa Guterstam | Published: September 9, 2009

Yesterday I was at the Interactive Institute in Kista, north of Stockholm and caught up on facts about the objects in the Visual Voltage exhibition. Now I want to have a power aware cord at home.

A phosphorus thread indicates the electricity passing in the cord. A bright blue light indicates high electricity levels, while a dimmer light gives us information of low electricity flow. What an excellent way to detect leakages such as stand-by modes. I got told, a water boiler makes the cord really bright… Have a feeling my toaster might as well. Looking forward to try.

Visual Voltage in Brussels - a part of Design September

By Kajsa Guterstam | Published: September 4, 2009

logo-design-september-09There is a lot going on in terms of design in Brussels the coming weeks: Design September

Launched 2006 within the framework of the Fashion and Design year, the Design September festival brings together fifty events concerned with design in Brussels.

For the fourth consecutive year, a crowd of associations, institutions and other independent organisations have tuned up their violins to offer, between 10 September and 2 October 2009, a rich and varied programme.

This year once again the festival will invite a broad panel of internationally recognised designers: Tom Dixon, Front Design, Mathieu Lehanneur and Barber Osgerby will thus take over from Ron Arad, Patrick Jouin, David Trubridge, the Bouroullecs, Alberto Meda, the 5.5 Designers, Brendan McFarlane, Maarten Baas, Jurgen Bey and Ora Ito.

Extra extra: This year for the first time Design September is organising an international colloquium on packaging design and European awards for design and innovation.

Visual Voltage is one of few foreign initiatives.
